Boy Surprised by What He Hears
Promise to keep their secret and check on them more often. They need you.

Caring for someone doesn’t mean carrying everything alone. If someone makes you feel like you’re responsible for their safety or happiness, that’s a big red flag.

Some people might:

  • Build emotional dependenceWhen someone relies too much on another person for their happiness, support, or sense of safety, like saying “you’re the only one who understands me” or making you feel like it’s your job to fix their problems.
    •  They might act like you’re the only person who can help them.
  • Use guilt or fear to control you
    •  They might say things that make you feel bad for setting boundaries or speaking up.
  • Isolate you from real-world support
    •  They might tell you not to talk to anyone else or to keep everything “just between you two.”

You are not responsible for anyone else’s mental health. Help should come from adults or professionals.
